The Spy Project is a wonderfully fun, family show, set in the 1960’s, and inspired by the classic spy films and TV shows of the decade.

Audiences are plunged into a secret world of espionage, double-crossing MI6 agents, CIA operatives, German Assassins, Criminal Masterminds and a woman preparing for her first wedding anniversary - all of whom are trying to get their hands on 'IT'.

What people say ...

Brilliantly Bonkers. Surreal Street Theatre

Love the fact that its local.

We need more of this in Croydon

It was very fun and interactive.

What creative communities should be about.

Original, witty, thoroughly entertaining experience.

I liked when we were in the art gallery and there were these four random people, strangers, outside and as they were looking in and their faces as he just came wizzing out on that trolley chair. Amazing!

When the young guy in the park tried to break up the argument between the two actors thinking a real fight had broken out! He soon realised the giant bananas were part of a show, so he and his mates sat down and watched!

The 2017 Show

The original show was an interactive, secret theatre, promenade performance event, developed by SAVVY Theatre Company especially for the streets of Croydon.

Audiences used their smart phones to receive secret messages throughout the show, with clues to decipher telling them who to look out for and where to go next, taking them on a journey throughout the urban landscape that included local parks, art galleries, city streets and even the top of the iconic Croydon Clocktower!

The 2023 Show

Redeveloped as a one-act studio piece for a week-long residency at Fairfield Halls, this indoor show was performed by an inclusive community cast of 14 actors and included new scenes and the chance to flesh out characters from the original show.

The staging utilised clothes rails to create a variety of locations, including cafes, secret rooms at MI6, a space launch, art gallery and a high-speed car chase over Tower Bridge!

The 2025 Show

In our new guise as Coddiwomple Theatre, we are currently undertaking a period of research and development to help us combine the best story and world-building ideas from the previous two versions.

We are keen to explore ways of immersing and engaging people further with the help of digital technology, such as augmented reality apps and video mapping, to create a truly unique and accessible show that can pop-up in unexpected places for unsuspecting audiences.
